MELAKA, Sept 24 — The people in Melaka are hoping that continuous rain will occur to overcome the problems of water supply disruptions and the haze that had struck the state for the past one week (since Sept 14).
Government pensioner Zaidi Ahmad, 41, hoped that rain would fall continuously so that the water level at the dam would rise and subsequently resolve the water supply disruption faced by the state.
“Alhamduillah, the rain finally came yesterday…for almost two weeks there had been no rain, I hope that members of the public will continue to pray that Melaka will continue to receive the rain…when I woke up this morning I felt fresh because it has been some time that we had fresh weather like this,” he told Bernama during breakfast at a stall in Bukit Katil today.
He hoped that the rain would not only overcome the water disruption problem but also reduce the haze that had occurred in the country.
Also sharing the happiness was food entrepreneur, Nastasya Saffiya Abdullah, 30, who welcomed the rain as being the answer to the Melaka people’s prayers.
“I pray that rain would fall continuously to end the woes of the people in Melaka who had to wait for the tanker lorries and carry pails of water due to the water problems faced by the people for the past one week,” he said.
The Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) website yesterday hoped rain would fall continuously to reach the water spillover level to resolve the water supply disruption in the state.
Meanwhile, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading for Melaka City at 8 am today was 97 compared with 132 at 9 pm last night.
