SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) announced it is injecting RM1 million into Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI) to carry out various activities including research to raise skills focused on Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).
SMRI was developed by the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of UiTM in July as an institution to link academicians with the industry in expediting the most advanced and smart manufacturing applications towards the objectives of IR4.0.
UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Dr Mohd Azraai Kasim said the fund injection into SMRI was to assist local industries improve their economic performance through transformation and improved productivity, better competitive edge and product development.
“SMRI will assist industries to improve their products and services via analysis from modeling simulation and create a new network with researchers in the world to raise the university’s professionalism and credibility.
“I am confident SMRI will assist in promoting UiTM as a centre of engineering and manufacturing excellence in developing new technology on industrial scale,” he said in his speech when opening the ‘Academia-Industry Collaboration Symposium: Experience, Objective and Technical Dialogue’ here today.
