PUTRAJAYA, Oct 4 — Maxis Bhd is ready to roll out its 5G services next year as soon as the spectrum is set for release in the second half of next year.
Its chief executive officer, Gokhan Ogut said Maxis is ready to provide its 5G services following the signing of an agreement with Huawei Technologies Malaysia on the provisioning of the 5G service network today.
“Our ambition is to be the first operator and chosen partner (of Huawei) for 5G. As the 5G spectrum release (is expected) in the second half of next year, we are ready for the next step.
“As soon as we launch (the 5G services), mobile plans will be available,” he told a press conference after the signing ceremony which was witnessed by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad here.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Eddin Syazlee Shith and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission chairman Al-Ishsal Ishak were present.
Commenting on affordability, Ogut said Maxis has yet to decide on the pricing as the 5G service network is still on trial.
However, he said Maxis would opt for a pricing strategy, providing customers with a wide range of services and prices.
Meanwhile, Al-Ishsal said the final report on the Malaysian 5G mobile technology implementation will likely be completed next month.
He said the interim report by the National 5G Special Task Force would be submitted to Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
Thereafter, he said all inputs from the report would also reflect the stand Malaysia would take at the Radiocommunication Conference 2019 in Egypt from Oct 28 to Nov 22.
“Hopefully, by third quarter (of next year) the spectrum will be allocated,” he said.
