LANGKAWI, Nov 10 — The campaign on water safety is carried out to serve as a platform for basic education and awareness on the dangers of water activities, said Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Towards this end, she said, the Fire and Rescue Department had identified high-risk locations for water activities that are of attraction to the public, especially with the approaching school holidays.
She said the Water Activities Safety Council (MKAA) had also carried out assessment of the locations concerned for purpose of setting up signboard to warn the public on the dangers of carrying water activities there.
“Life Saving Appliances (LiSA) will also be placed at hotspot areas where tragedy and accidents often occurred,” she told a media conference after launching the campaign at Dataran Chenang here today.
Also present were Kedah Industry and Investment, Local Government and Housing Committee chairman Tan Kok Yew, Housing and Local Government Ministry deputy secretary-general (policy) Datuk Dr Mary Wong Lai Lin and Kedah Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon.
The campaign was also launched simultaneously at Teluk Cempedak in Pahang and Pantai Awam Desaru in Johor.
