China's Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian

SUNGAI BULOH, 14 Feb — China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian believes that the soon-to-be announced economic stimulus package will help to boost economy and trade in China and Malaysia.

He said the impact from the outbreak would be mitigated by the economic stimulus package or a special policy implemented by the Malaysian and Chinese governments.

He noted that the COVID-19 outbreak had affected many industries, especially the tourism industry, adding that bilateral trade during the first quarter of this year may be affected due to the mutual dependency between China and Malaysia.

“However, during the Chinese New Year holiday, commercial activities in China slows down, so the impact may not be as big as you might think.

“In the longer term, the overall 2020 economy situation is very likely to be stable,” he said to reporters  after visiting four Chinese nationals who have recovered from the COVID-19 infection and were subsequently discharged from the Sungai Buloh Hospital today.

Also present was Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye.
