PUTRAJAYA, May 21 — A total of 50 COVID-19 new cases were recorded today, taking the country’s infection tally to 7,059 cases, with infectivity cases now at 1,149, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.

Out of the 50, three are imported cases who contracted the virus abroad while 47 more were local transmissions, he said.

“Of the 47 local infections, 41 involved non-Malaysians of which 34 were detected at the Immigration Detention Centre in Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

“They had already been under detention even before the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into force on March 18,” he said at the daily COVID-19 media briefing here today.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that there were 90 recoveries recorded today, bringing the number of those fully recovered and discharged to 5,796 cases (82.1 percent). Also, there were no fatalities reported overnight, which retained the country’s death toll at 114 cases or 1.61 percent of the total number of fatalities.
