PETALING JAYA , Nov 2: Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik has quit Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s new party Pejuang.

In a statement, the former education minister said his decision was based on “detailed observations and field research” of the people’s aspirations and needs.

This comes amid speculation over his status in the party after his name was missing from a joint press release from all Pejuang MPs yesterday.

Maszlee said he wanted to focus on the people, especially his constituents.

“I believe the people have grown nauseous with the game of power and politics by the elite ‘Politikus’.

“What the people need are politicians who focus on resolving the adversities they currently face,” he said.

Maszlee, a former PPBM leader, added he will continue to serve as an independent MP and work with NGOs and activists.

“I believe efforts for change do not require power and position solely but passion and opportunity.”
