KUANTAN, Nov 28 — Pahang Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) hopes Umno will take heed of the call by its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that leaders of Malay-Muslim parties form the largest coalition to face the upcoming 15th general election (GE-15).

Its secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said to win GE-15, the best way is  to set up a coalition involving Bersatu, PAS and Umno.

“Bersatu and PAS are already officially in the Perikatan Nasional alliance… though Umno is not officially in yet, they are part of the PN government. Through his speech, President (Muhyiddin) without hesitation and rhetoric has stated the best way to face GE-15 is to form a coalition of Malay parties.

“I hope Muhyiddin’s call will be accepted by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,” he told reporters after the president’s policy speech at Bersatu General Assembly held virtually, here, today.

Earlier, Muhyiddin in his speech said it would be good if all Malay and Muslim leaders in the country could unite in a great congregation to create political stability in the country.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin, who is also Communications and Multimedia Minister said an amendment to Bersatu’s constitution to allow non-Malays and non-Muslims to become associate members of the party has changed the party’s actual DNA .

“Although we are a Malay Muslim party, we still respect and recognise other religions, and as a Malay Islamic party, we do accept non-Muslims as members,” ​​he said.
