Kuala Lumpur Dec 6 : The health ministry has reported 1,335 Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,069 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 61,273.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 1,335 cases brought the total number of infections in the country to 72,694.

Meanwhile, the two deaths bring the toll to 382.

Selangor reported the highest number of cases today with 337, followed by Negeri Sembilan (258) and Sabah (250).

Noor Hisham said most of the cases in Selangor were from existing clusters and close contact screenings.

Meanwhile, the majority of the cases in Negeri Sembilan and Sabah came from existing clusters in both states.

Of today’s cases, 243 came from prison and temporary detention centre clusters, namely the Jalan Harapan prison cluster (141 cases), Tembok cluster (92), Sibuga cluster (seven), Bakti cluster (two) and the Rumah Merah cluster (one).

Other states and federal territories with new cases reported today were Kuala Lumpur (178), Johor (125), Perak (108), Penang (31), Labuan (21), Kedah (17), Pahang (four), Melaka (three), Kelantan (two) and Terengganu (one).

On the two deaths, Noor Hisham said they were both Malaysians from Johor and Perak. They were aged 65 and 72. Both had a history of chronic illnesses.

There are currently 11,039 active cases with 126 patients receiving intensive care, of which 57 require respiratory assistance.

Kelantan, Putrajaya and Perlis did not record any new cases today.

Out of the 1,335 cases today, only three were imported cases.
