PETALING JAYA,Dec 17: Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 196 people were arrested by the police yesterday over movement control order-related offences.

In a statement, Ismail said all those detained were issued compound fines.

Most of the offences, he said, were for failing to provide materials for contact tracing registration. Other offences include failing to wear face masks and participating in activities which made physical distancing difficult.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,960 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 14,137 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

The authorities also detained 59 undocumented migrants and confiscated three vehicles yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign.

On mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 87,522 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to Dec 16 and placed under quarantine.

Some 532 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 77,986 have been allowed to return home.

A total of 9,004 people are undergoing mandatory quarantine.
