KUALA PERLIS, Dec 20  — The Perlis government is targetting four to five million domestic tourist arrivals next year on account of the COVID-19 situation and the closure of the country’s borders.

Perlis State Secretary, Azman Mohd Yusof said this was based on several initiatives undertaken by the state government together with other state governments such as Kedah and Penang, government agencies and the private sector.

“Previously, tourists only came to Perlis to go to Langkawi Island or to Thailand, but lately they have started to make Perlis as one of the main destinations,” he told Bernama here, today.

Azman said this after the launch of the travel magazine ‘Citra Brasmana’ and the Brasmana Family Fun Splash at Hotel Putra Brasmana.

He who is also the chairman of the board of directors of Putra Brasmana Sdn Bhd said other hotels can emulate what Putra Brasmana Hotel has done such as incorporating recreational elements and the mini theme park as a new attraction to the hotel.

“Among the new attractions at Putra Brasmana Hotel are Taman Dinasor (dinosaur park), Family Fun Splash (water theme park) and Brasmana Foodtruck & Flea market,” he said.

Putra Brasmana hotel general manager Saiful Nizam Ahmad Nazri said since the new attraction was opened, the hotel received more than 1,000 visitors every day of the week.

“This is a short-term and long-term initiative by the management to meet the challenges of the new norms brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
