PETALING JAYA,Jan 13: Deputy communications and multimedia minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin has tested positive for Covid-19 this morning.

In a statement, the ministry said he had been tested for the virus on Jan 11 upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur from Penang.

“He has been admitted to Hospital Sungai Buloh for further treatment according to the guidelines set by the health ministry. He had previously been tested on Dec 25, which came back negative.

“Zahidi is in stable condition and apologises for any complications that have arisen,” the ministry said.

Yesterday, home minister Hamzah Zainudin became the third minister to test positive for Covid-19, after women, family and community development minister Rina Harun and minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (economy affairs) Mustapa Mohamed.

Previously, other top government officials who contracted Covid-19 included minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (religious affairs) Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri and deputy environment and water minister Ahmad Masrizal Mohamad.
