Kuala Lumpur Jan 28 FMT: Mohamad Sabu this evening clarified that Anwar Ibrahim’s decision to send the King a list of MPs who were in favour of the emergency proclamation being rescinded and for a parliament sitting to be called was agreed upon by Pakatan Harapan leaders.

“So was the decision by three assemblymen from Johor, Perak and Kedah to take legal action against Muhyiddin Yassin for advising the King to declare an emergency,” the Amanah president said in a tweet.

It is understood that Anwar had sent the list of 99 MPs, including those from Sarawak, to the King on Jan 19.

Two days ago, three elected representatives from Pakatan Harapan filed an application to initiate a judicial review on the government’s decision to seek an emergency proclamation and the suspension of parliamentary and state assembly sittings.

They were Amanah’s Simpang Jeram assemblyman Salahuddin Ayub, PKR’s Gurun assemblyman Johari Abdul and DAP’s Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Abdul Aziz Bari.

The tweet by Mohamad, or Mat Sabu as he is often called, also comes a day after the police said they were investigating Anwar over a statement calling for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to rescind the emergency proclamation.

Earlier this month, Anwar wrote to all MPs, urging them to write to the King to plead with him to revoke the emergency proclamation and call for a Parliament sitting as soon as possible as there were sufficient measures in place to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

The King, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had given his consent to the declaration of a state of emergency to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, which is to last until Aug 1, or an earlier date if the number of infections was to reduce by then.

A few days ago, the opposition leader claimed that up to 115 MPs were against the proclamation of the emergency and wanted parliamentary sittings to be held.

He has also filed for leave to initiate a judicial review to challenge the government’s decision to seek an emergency proclamation.
