KUALA LUMPUR,Mar 11: The Royal Malaysia Police has announced a special intake of police officers among non-Bumiputeras and Orang Asli this year.

Bukit Aman’s Management Department has discussed with the Public Service Department (JPA) on easing application requirements, especially academic qualifications, to encourage more non-Bumiputeras and Orang Asli to sign up.

“We are waiting for JPA’s approval,” the department’s director, Ramli Din, told reporters at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters today.

Among others, the Grade YA1 constable application for non-Bumiputeras only requires applicants to pass one subject in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

“Applicants just need a credit in any subject,” he said, adding that those who did not pass the Bahasa Melayu paper could still apply.

“They just need to retake their Bahasa Melayu paper and pass within six years of being hired. If not, their service will be terminated,” he said.

The department has also asked JPA to reduce the physical requirements for Orang Asli applicants.

It hopes to reduce the minimum height requirement for the Grade YP1 post to 160cm for male applicants and 155cm for females.

Applications for non-Bumiputeras, through www.pengambilanpdrm.rmp.gov.my, will open from March 18 to 31.

For Orang Asli applicants, the job application form may be obtained from the Orang Asli development office (PKOAD) from now to April 30.
