KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Radio Television Malaysia’s (RTM) 75th anniversary was celebrated nationwide today, and in Angkasapuri it was a double celebration together with the RTM Orchestra’s 60th anniversary.

The celebrations were held under the new norms with strict compliance to the standard operating procedures.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in his speech that was delivered virtually, said RTM should be prepared to change in line with the current development and advancement of technology while creating more success stories to bring the Malaysian Broadcasting Department to greater heights.

In KELANTAN, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said in a news conference that the close partnership with RTM had helped the state government channel accurate information through the television and radio networks.

He added that RTM’s role was very important as the government’s official information channel for public reference, especially with the spread of fake news online.

In KEDAH, Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said RTM employees need to enhance their innovative skills and creativity as the information world is now filled with competition.

“Although there are many portals currently, RTM remains relevant because it bears a huge responsibility to only disseminate accurate and true information,” he said.

In NEGERI SEMBILAN, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, representing the state government, expressed his gratitude to RTM for their commitment in presenting information to the masses, especially regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

RTM’s anniversary celebration in PERLIS is more meaningful as it took place at the state’s new Malaysian Broadcasting Department complex that was officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

Perlis RTM deputy director M. Parameswarie said they would move completely to the new complex next month, after having rented the premises on the 6th floor of the Employees Provident Fund building in Kangar since 1992.

In JOHOR, the celebration was enlivened with a bangsawan theatrical performance by Johor FM and the Dunia Pertama Selatan song performance by the Johor RTM staff while in PERAK, celebrations began with the flag-off of the Perak FM Skuad Cakna Komuniti convoy.

Finally, in TERENGGANU, RTM’s anniversary celebration was officiated by the state Human Development, Dakwah and Information Committee chairman Mohd Noor Hamzah.
