PUTRAJAYA, April 5 — A joint committee between Malaysia and Singapore has been set up to discuss air travel as both countries are looking for ways to restore cross-border travel after the movement restriction due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Malaysia’s Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the committee was headed by Transport Ministry secretary-general, Datuk Isham Ishak and Singapore’s Transport Ministry permanent secretary, Loh Ngai Seng.

“They are discussing how to expedite the process, protocols and necessary certification, for instance, the vaccine passport or any kind of documents accepted by both countries,” he told reporters after a briefing on the development of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, here, today.

Wee said the discussion would also focus on which airlines to carry the passengers and their capacity.

“At the initial stage, the passenger capacity needs to be managed and cannot open up for all,” he said.

On March 23, Malaysia and Singapore reaffirmed their commitment to making travelling between both countries possible the soonest.

Among others, they will find a way to recognise each other’s COVID-19 vaccination certification to facilitate future cross-border travel between both countries.
