Kuala Lumpur May 5 — All schools in Selangor have been told by the state education department to close tomorrow and Friday. Raya school holidays begin on Monday.

This follows the federal government’s decision to impose a movement control order (MCO) on six districts in Selangor, namely Hulu Langat, Petaling, Gombak, Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang.

Selangor education director Izmi Ismail said this was an effort to reduce movement in the community following the increase in Covid-19 cases in the state of Selangor.

He said school closures would continue until the Hari Raya school holidays adding that those in boarding schools would be allowed to return home as per schedule.

Izmi advised all school administrators to take note of these instructions and ensure teachers were able to implement the learn-from-home programme.

He said all district education officers must also ensure that all schools comply with these instructions.

Inter-district travel is prohibited in all six districts except for emergencies, deaths or work purposes. The SOPs will be similar to other areas under MCO, such as Kelantan and the five districts in Kedah announced recently.
