KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — Nine Filipinos have been arrested for allegedly using fake identity cards during an operation conducted by the National Registration Department (NRD) here.

Putrajaya NRD Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSK) director Nooruladzim Ateman said the suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were picked up in Pantai Dalam, Taman Lee Yan and Taman Pandan Perdana yesterday afternoon.

“In the operation involving 29 Putrajaya BSK personnel, 24 individuals were checked and nine men were caught on suspicion of using fake identity cards.

“The case is being investigated under Regulation 21(1)( e ) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which provides for a jail term of up to three years or fine of not more than RM20,000, or both, on conviction,” he said in a statement today.

He said the operation was aimed at combating forgery and misuse of personal identification documents.
