BERUAS, May 6  — The Perak state government will bear the entire costs of RM112,000 to repair 104 houses affected by storms in four mukims in Manjung district on Tuesday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the assistance are for house repairs, such as fixing roofs, and additional allocation will be provided if repair costs increase.

He said the government has also asked the district office to conduct a detailed study on the damages sustained by residents of the 22 villages in four mukims, namely, Pengkalan Bharu, Beruas, Lekir and Pangkor, due to the storm.

“The state government will bear the repair costs and the funds will be channeled through the Yayasan Bina Upaya that will deal directly with the district office. Alhamdulillah there were no lives lost due to this incident.

“We have also asked the land office to appoint a contractor to begin immediate repair work as most of them will be celebrating Aidilfitri soon,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after visiting and presenting donations to a victim whose house was damaged by the storm in Kampung Indah, Pantai Remis, today.

Saarani said check conducted by district office found that 84 houses sustained minor damage, including where roofs were blown away by winds, while 20 houses were badly damaged, such as having trees fall on them or the entire roof blown off.

“I was also informed by the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM), that if any storm victim is a fishermen’s association member, they are entitled to disaster assistance from LKIM,” he added.
