KANGAR, May 10  — The Aidilfitri prayer throughout Perlis will be held in open areas in line with the sunnah and to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) president, said the prayer would start at 8 am.

However, he said if the weather was not suitable such as heavy rain, the prayer could be held in mosques at 8.30 am, with maximum capacity according to the standard operating procedures (SOP).

“The Aidilfitri prayer is not allowed to be held at any surau or community hall without prior approval from the religious authority,” he said in a statement issued by MAIPs today.

He said the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail had consented to perform the Aidilfitri prayer with the people at Dataran Istidat, Istana Arau.

“Congregants must always adhere to the stipulated safety and health SOP and the mosque management has the right to reprimand and refuse entry of those who do not comply with the SOP,” said Tuanku Syed Faizuddin.

He said the public were also encouraged to bring along shoe bags to maintain the cleanliness of the prayer area and an umbrella to prepare for hot weather or rain.

“Those who have crossed the border to Perlis should perform the Aidilfitri prayer at their residential area to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission,” he said.

The ruler said the Aidilfitri feast could be conducted at the prayer area by distributing pre-packed food.
