KOTA BHARU, June 20 — The Kelantan State Legislative Assembly will be held once Parliament announces the date it will reconvene, said Speaker Datuk Abdullah Ya’kub.

He said this was decided during his meeting with Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob today.

He added that should the state assembly be held, it would adhere to the same standard operating procedure (SOP) as the Parliament sitting, be it via a hybrid or face-to-face method.

“For now, the assembly cannot be held as it is bound by the Emergency Ordinance.

“As we all know, based on this ordinance, general and state elections, by-elections as well as Parliament and state assembly sittings cannot be held during the Emergency period,” he said when contacted today.

The last time Kelantan’s state assembly convened was on April 14, 2020, but it only lasted for 45 minutes due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).
