PUTRAJAYA, June 28  — The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM), together with its agency CyberSecurity Malaysia, are proactive and committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the country’s cyberspace.

Its Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said CyberSecurity Malaysia, with capabilities in terms of manpower expertise and supported by laboratory infrastructure equipment, will continue to offer services, support and technical assistance as well as professional training programmes to all parties to improve the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem.

“All parties must work together to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity ecosystem by streamlining governance based on cybersecurity standards and best practices, improving skills and expertise, sharing information to formulate more effective cybersecurity strategies and procedures,” he said in a statement today.

The statement was issued in response to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s call when officiating the Cyber Defense, Cyber Security and Emerging Technology Event for the Global Community 2021 (CYDES 2021) today for cybersecurity to be the government’s main focus area that should be given due attention by all parties to combat cyber threats and crimes.

Saifuddin said CyberSecurity Malaysia through the SiberKASA programme had produced a total of 35 cybersecurity products and services covering Cybersecurity Responsive Services, Cybersecurity Proactive Services, Outreach and Capacity Building, Strategic Studies and Engagement and Industry Development and Research.

The products and services have also been classified under three components, namely human, processes and technology as a holistic approach to develop, empower, sustain and strengthen the infrastructure and cybersecurity ecosystem in Malaysia, he said.

Saifuddin said in today’s digital technology era, cybersecurity has become more risky and complicated because the more technology evolves, the more complex and sophisticated the threats and cyberattacks become.

“Cybercriminals are also more active, brave and more sophisticated. In fact, they use new methods, techniques and more effective tactics to launch cyber threats and attacks to cause a negative impact on national development and threaten the well-being and harmony of the people,” he said.
