KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — The 2021 Super League season is proving to be able to draw audiences as a total of 21,814,979 viewers have tuned in to the live broadcasts aired on three platforms, Sports Channel on Unifi TV and Unifi PlayTV, Unifi YouTube and RTM’s TV1 (via the Unifi Set-Top-Box).

The viewership involved the live broadcast of matches starting from the first Super League match on March 5 till the 13th match on May 9 before the league action stopped and resumed on July 24.

Another interesting highlight is the high viewership of 49,838,140 for matches on Unifi YouTube till May 30 this year.

Malaysia Football League (MFL) chief executive officer, Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan said in a statement today that the viewership statistics proved that the Super League remained the country’s number one favourite sports programme.

He said the viewership could potentially be improved in line with the public’s growing interest in football in the future.

“The MFL appreciates the feedback, especially from local football fans who constantly provide firm support to the footballing industry as the country faces a tough time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very touched by our local football fans’ great response. Keep supporting our country’s football as  the Malaysia League (M-League) is our league.

“We hope the COVID-19 outbreak can be controlled properly and more Malaysians get vaccinated so that spectators are allowed to fill the stadiums soon,” he added.

Ab Ghani also conveyed his thanks to the government, especially the National Security Council, Health Ministry and Youth and Sports Ministry that provided approval and the Royal Malaysia Police for their very good cooperation to MFL to continue the M-League during such a challenging period.
