JASIN, July 18 — The Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry (MAFI) through the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP) today handed over 400 food baskets to farmers around Merlimau, here, under the MAFI Prihatin programme.

In a statement, LPP’s corporate affairs division said the contribution was given to 189 farmers and 11 members of the Merlimau Area Farmers’ Organisation (PPK) as well as 200 members of the Jasin PPK involving the Kampung Tedong, Tengah Padang, Sungai Rambai padi areas and the Jasin PPK entrepreneur project.

The food baskets contained basic necessities such as rice, oil, flour, sugar, milk and so on. Meanwhile, 60 students of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Semujuk will receive fresh chicken which will be handed to the university canteen operator to be cooked for the affected students and those still on campus as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In line with the National Recovery Plan which is being implemented, the wishes and concerns of the federal government have been conveyed by MAFI Deputy Minister I, Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah to the farmers, and UiTM Semujuk students.

“The measures taken are to help ease the burden of those in need of assistance to survive due to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially those having dependents and whose sources of income have been adversely affected,” it said in the statement.

The aid today was handed over through the Melaka LPP to Jasin PPK board chairman Ahmad Baharudin who represented the Jasin PPK farmers, UiTM Semujuk student representative council president Muhammad Sukayadi Salim, Tedong Darat Farmers’ Unit head Muhd ​​Suhaimi Muhd ​​Suzaimi, Tengah Padang Farmers’ Unit head Sabidin Latip and Sungai Rambai Farmers’ Unit (A) chief Sulaiman Bakron.

Also present were LPP director-general (DG) Datuk Azulita Salim, its deputy DG (Development) Norlizah Muhamad and Melaka LPP director Ahmad Fuad Zakaria.
