KUALA LUMPUR, July  — The special five-day sitting of the Dewan Rakyat slated to end on Aug 2 will not be extended, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

In fact, he said the sitting will also finish at 5.30 pm in accordance with Standing Order 12 (1) of the Dewan Rakyat.

“As stated in Standing Order 12 (1), the meeting will continue until 5.30 pm, but under Standing Order 12 (3) the Speaker may extend the time for not more than 15 minutes.

“Indeed, the Standing Order 12(1) give the power to a minister to vary the time of the sitting, but based on expert’s advice, I want to confirm that I have received the mandate from the Leader of the House not to extend the day or time of the sitting from 5.30 pm to 5.45 pm,” he said.

The special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat was set to take place for five days from July 26 to 29 and on Aug 2, while the special sitting for the Senate is slated for three days from Aug 3 to 5.
