ALOR SETAR, Sept 21 — The Kedah State Assembly sitting today was told that the state government will provide an easy loan facility of up to RM5,000 to petty traders whose income was badly affected by the spread of COVID-19.

Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the easy loan facility, which involves an allocation of RM1 million, will be made available starting next month to help the traders to get back on their feet.

“Each petty trader can take up a maximum loan of RM5,000…this loan facility is to help petty traders who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as some had been forced to shut down their businesses following the implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO).”

Muhammad Sanusi said this in reply to Datuk Phahrolrazi Zawawi (Amanah-Alor Mengkudu) who wanted to know other forms of aid and assistance provided by the state government to the people affected by the pandemic.

The menteri besar said since the implementation of the MCO 3.0 last June, the state government had been showing concern over the wellbeing of the people by distributing food baskets to those affected.

“We never expected to face this pandemic but every time an Enhanced MCO is imposed in certain areas, the state government will strive to supply food baskets and cash aid to those involved,” he said.
