KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), RZAC ImmuneSAFE Sdn Bhd and the Selangor Football Club (SFC) have collaborated to conduct ImmuSAFE antibody tests for SFC players and management.

MARii chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Ts Madani Sahari said the collaboration brings a new dimension to the national sports sector, whereby contact sports can now restart through rigorous and strict standard operating procedures (SOP) compliance, combined with the COVID-19 serological test.

He said the ImmuSAFE antibody test is a quantitative serological test that allows for the determination of protective antibody levels in an individual, post-infection or after vaccination.

“The results of this test are important in determining the effectiveness of vaccines, as well as the need for booster doses.

“This will assist SFC to have better control and manage players’ bubble, as each player and employee receives the results of the ImmuSAFE antibody test,” he said in a statement yesterday.

A total of 80 SFC players and personnel including CEO Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon, attended the ImmuSAFE antibody test session yesterday at the FAS Training Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Meanwhile, Johan said through ImmuSAFE, the management of the vaccination programme for Selangor players and officers would be more systematic and more confident in the level of antibody protection during contact training and football matches.

“We thank MARii and RZAC for providing us access to new technologies so that national football can continue during this pandemic,” he said.

Meanwhile RZAC director Datuk Seri Rayyan Joseph King said the acceptance of ImmuSAFE in the sports industry indicates that the use of ImmuSAFE antibody test was universal and could enhance the existing efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

ImmuSAFE, launched in Sept 2020 was the world’s first serological test kit (blood serum test) to detect the presence of antibodies related to nine different SARS-CoV-2 virus domains.

The results of the ImmuSAFE test provide information on the risk factors of infection as well as the presence of protective antibodies against COVID-19 in symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals.
