KUCHING, Nov 8 — The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has submitted its list of candidates for the coming Sarawak state election to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Traditionally, SUPP will always contest 20 seats, and I have submitted the name list to Abang Jo,” said SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“What I can tell now is the seven incumbents will be contesting again in the next election,” he told reporters when met here today.

On Oct 24, GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the coalition would be contesting in all the 82 seats up for grabs in the polls.

GPS comprises Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), SUPP and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

On Nov 5, Abang Johari said the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly has been dissolved effective Nov 3, paving the way for a state election.

The caretaker Chief Minister said this followed the consent given by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to revoke the Proclamation of Emergency for Sarawak on the same date.
