More than half of people in Europe are on track to contract the Omicron coronavirus variant in the next two months if infections continue at current rates, the head of the WHO’s Europe region said during a press conference on Tuesday. Dr. Hans Kluge warned that the variant is more transmissible, even among those previously infected or vaccinated, but stresses that approved vaccines continue to provide good protection against severe disease.
