TANJONG KARANG, Jan 15  — The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (MEDAC) has urged local authorities to facilitate entrepreneurs’ business licence application process.

Its minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said entrepreneurs are facing challenges due to limited trading sites and in their licence applications, as well as lack of financing opportunities.

“In Tanjong Karang (Selangor) especially, focus on the micro and informal entrepreneurs — for example, on the food truck operators which require parking space to operate,” he told reporters after a MEDAC dialogue session with entrepreneurs here today.

He also expressed hope that the local authorities will not issue compounds to entrepreneurs still recovering from the Movement Control Order following the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the flood disaster if these entrepreneurs breach certain rules, but instead will give them advice.

Earlier in the day, the minister also urged government financial institutions to facilitate loan applications for flood-affected rural entrepreneurs whether or not they have been blacklisted by the Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS).

Noh noted that the government has allocated a total of RM62 million — RM40 million to Bank Rakyat and RM22 million to SME Bank — to help rural entrepreneurs affected by the recent floods to apply for loans.
