Patrick Nijs is the former ambassador of Belgium to China and the protagonist of The Chinese New Year of the Foreign Son-in-law. Patrick and his wife Deng Minyan returned to her hometown Dongchuan District in Kunming of Yunnan Province to build a farm and explore the permaculture. In previous years, Patrick and his wife spent the Spring Festival at their home in Dongchuan with villagers and friends.
