KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — Westports Holdings Bhd has assured that the company’s insurance policies cover damages resulting from a fire which broke out at the company’s container yard yesterday afternoon.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Westports said the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysian Police and the company’s insurance claims surveyor will conduct a thorough investigation to probe the cause and source of the fire.

“The company will also ascertain the extent of the affected declared cargoes. Westports’ insurance policies provide coverage for fire incidents… will inform the affected boxes’ shipping lines or box operators in due course,” it said.

Westports added that the terminal’s operations were unaffected during the entire duration of the incident yesterday as the fire was confined and did not cause damage to operating equipment and infrastructures nor resulted to any injuries.

Yesterday, a fire broke out at the company’s container yard at about 4.45pm. The company’s Port Police Control Centre with help from Port Klang’s Fire and Rescue Department managed to bring the fire under control early this morning.
