KOTA TINGGI, May 15 — The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) will ensure there is collaboration between the government, private sector and entrepreneurs for the development of digital economy and green technology in the country.
Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, said the ministry took seriously the views of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his working visit to the United States (US) on the development of the digital economy and green technology in Malaysia.
As such, he said the collaboration was important for the ministry’s strategic plan to succeed, especially the National Nanotechnology and Products Roadmap 2021-2025 in making Malaysia a prosperous high-tech country.
“Our current move is to see how seriously we will drive green technology activities, including in the agricultural sector where much more greenhouses are using internet of things (IoT) and also artificial intelligence.
“We need talent and collaboration between the private sector, government and entrepreneurs and I will be responsible to ensure this collaboration happens,” he told reporters after attending the MOSTI Science Carnival and Hari Raya celebration here last night.
During his working visit, the Prime Minister invited US investors and businessmen, especially Fortune 500 companies, to invest or increase their investments in the digital economy, green technology and electric car sectors.
Ismail Sabri also suggested to Tesla to invest in Malaysia in producing electric cars.
Dr Adham said Malaysia has started on developing electric vehicle (EV) related technologies in positioning the country as a producer of EV technology.
He said the NanoMalaysia Energy Storage Technology Initiative (NESTI) programme has also been implemented to serve as a national-level platform aimed at developing and commercialising energy storage systems to be used for electric mobility and supply of uninterrupted power for commercial and domestic use.
