ARAU, May 17 — Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Board of Governors (LGU) chairman Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin led the list of 325 recipients of state awards and medals in conjunction with the 79th birthday the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail at Istana Arau here today.

Awang Adek received the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perlis (SPMP), which carries the title ‘Datuk Seri’.

Prima Group Sdn Bhd director Tan Sri Mohd Ariffin Mohd Yusuf was also conferred a similar award.

Three secretaries-general, namely Datuk Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof from the Education Ministry;  Datuk Suriani Datuk Ahmad (Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry) and Azman Mohd Yusof (Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry) were conferred the Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perlis (DPMP) award, which carries the title ‘Datuk’.

 Meanwhile, Perlis police chief Datuk Surina Saad and four others received the Datuk Setia Paduka Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail (DSPJ) award, which also carries the title ‘Datuk’.

The others are Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director (PGA) DCP Muhammad Abdul Halim, Malaysian Ambassador to Spain Akmal Che Mustafa, USM deputy vice-chancellor (Student Development Affairs and Alumni) Prof Dr Aldrin Abdullah and Legal Aid Department director-general Wan Jeffry Kassim.

USM registrar Dr Musa Ali and  Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) chief executive officer Md Silmi Abd Rahman were conferred the Datuk Panglima Sirajuddin Jamalullail (DPSJ), which carries the title ‘Datuk’.

Four people received the Setia Mahkota Perlis (SMP), four others received the Seri Sirajuddin Perlis (SSP) and another 32 recipients were awarded the Ahli Mahkota Perlis (AMP).

A total of 36 people received the Pingat Mahkota Perlis (PMP), Pingat Pekerti Terpilih (PPT) (three), Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) (61); Pingat Jasa Baik (PJB )(153) and Pingat Perkhidmatan Lama (PPL) (20).
