KUCHING, May 23 — The involvement of the people in exploring the new economy in Sarawak to turn it into a high-income state in 2030 should be based on correct information, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said that currently there was too much false information being disseminated through social media.

As such, he said, the Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) community could become a bridge connecting leaders and the government with the ordinary people statewide to deliver correct information.

“We have a strong foundation and a good future as long as we continue to be firmly united and co-operate with one another,” he said.

Awang Tengah, who is also the Sarawak International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminals & Entrepreneur Development Minister, said this when attending a Keluarga Malaysia Community Gathering organised by the Sarawak Information Department tonight.

Awang Tengah said the Sarawak government’s move in taking the people in the state to explore the new economy had been further strengthened when the State Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2022 and the Forests (Amendment) Bill 2022 were passed during the State Assembly sitting recently.

He said the state government wanted the effort to boost income to be participated by all the people of Sarawak and that could only be achieved by improving their knowledge and skills.

“The Keluarga Malaysia community can also play this role by becoming an institution statewide which not only focuses on efforts to maintain unity, the spirit of tolerance, mutual respect and co-operation among its multi-racial and multi-religious people,” he added.
