KANGAR, May 26 — Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with two universities — Nottingham Trent Universiti (NTU) and University of Surrey (UoS) — in an effort to strengthen strategic partnerships and cooperation through the field of higher education.

In a statement today, UNIMAP said the MoU signing ceremony, held in London yesterday, was witnessed by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

The minister said the government always encourages the exchange of expertise to enhance student and staff training and development in the higher education field in the country.

“I hope UniMAP will be able to leverage on the expertise and knowledge from both these universities, and there will be cooperation towards the internationalisation of the country’s higher education,” she said.

The signing ceremony was officiated by UniMAP vice-chancellor (VC), Professor Dr Zaliman Sauli with NTU Associate Dean-Resource and Planning Social Sciences International Partnership, Dr Gareth Williams and UoS VC, Professor Dr Max Lu.

Meanwhile, Zaliman said he hoped the close cooperation with NTU would help develop quality research and consultancy work, especially in the fields of bioscience, chemistry, computing, technology as well as engineering.

He said the MoU would further enhance continuous cooperation in various fields, especially nanotechnology research.

He also hoped that the programmes and activities conducted with UoS after this will also be able to provide students and staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to remain relevant.

“I am excited to see the outcome of this collaboration and how it will open up more collaborative opportunities in the future,” he added.
