KUCHING, June 7 — The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) today launched “Sara and Wawa” as the two latest augmented reality (AR) mascot characters to promote the state’s tourism products.

State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said both AR mascots were developed by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

Sara is an animated Orang Ulu girl in traditional dress and Wawa – a rhinoceros hornbill.

“They will be deployed at strategic locations with internet connectivity to provide information to visitors on fun and innovative tourism experience in Sarawak,” he said when launching the mascots here today.

The launch event was also held simultaneously with the Appreciation Day for Sponsors of the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) and the Borneo Jazz Festival.

The RWMF will be held at the Sarawak Cultural Village from June 17 to 19, while the Borneo Jazz Festival is scheduled to be held from June 24 to 26 at Coco Canaba in Miri.
