KOTA KINABALU, June 25 — Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students should continue to acquire knowledge even after their graduation, especially to equip themselves for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0), said Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

The UMS Chancellor said to ensure their future success, graduates should take the initiative to change their mindset to flow with the unstoppable wave of technological developments.

He said it is essential for graduates to deepen their knowledge as this IR4.0 era involves revolutionary technologies like artificial intelligence, internet of things and robotic process automation which have an effect on their lives.

“I urge all graduates and all those who are in this beautiful hall to improve their command of the latest knowledge to help the religion, race and country. We need to believe in our own strength, that we have the ability to face the challenges of the current technological revolution.

“We need to undertake urgent transformation, such as by adopting an entrepreneurial mindset, mastering survival skills and be prepared to continue the learning process,” he added.

He said this when officiating at the 23rd UMS Convocation at Dewan Canselor UMS here today.

A total of 4,319 UMS students who completed their studies last year are scheduled to receive their scrolls at the three-day convocation, with 3,664 getting degrees, 357 master’s degrees, 134 diplomas, 87 post-graduate diplomas and 77 PhDs.

Juhar said the graduates should remember UMS as their alma mater and take initiatives to be of service to the next generation at the university.

“Remember that knowledge is a powerful weapon in every situation. We do not mean to change history but as UMS graduates you are capable of creating history in the coming days,” he said.
