KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — The Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2022 competition, which was launched today, is expected to attract the participation of about 10,000 students from schools and educational institutions from within and outside the country.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, in a statement today, said the competition, which would begin in September, provided an opportunity for the students to share their interests in science and technology through robotic creations.

He said the organising of the programme was in line with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation’s (MOSTI) vision to make Malaysia a developed and high-tech nation by 2030.

“The Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2022 is also in tandem with the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation 2021-2030 goals to drive Malaysia towards a more competitive nation that is built upon strong science, technology and innovation (STI) foundations.

“The programme is also able to increase students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects, thus nurturing curiosity through the hands-on approach and fun activities,” he said.

Apart from MOSTI, the competition was also supported by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB), Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI), MyDigital Corporation, UBTech and Microsoft Malaysia.

Petrosains RBTX Challenge 2022 is a platform for all robotics enthusiasts to gather, learn, explore and compete using their invented robots as well as help them master Higher-Order Thinking Skills (KBAT).

The challenge has received entries from more than 800 schools nationwide since its inception in 2018.

Registration is currently open until July 31 involving three categories, namely Robo Tracer, Robo Sumo and Innovation.

Winners will receive cash prizes worth more than RM40,000 as well as an e-certificate from Petrosains.
