LOS ANGELES, Sept 10 — Disney launched its D23 Expo on Friday, reportedly the largest Disney fan event in the world.

The opening ceremony was held at the Anaheim Convention Centre in Southern California, featuring the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony, which honors visionaries and artists who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy, said Xinhua.

This year’s honorees of the Disney Legends Award include Anthony Anderson, Kristen Bell, Chadwick Boseman, Rob’t Coltrin, Patrick Dempsey, Robert Price “Bob” Foster, Jonathan Groff, Don Hahn, Josh Gad, Doris Hardoon, Idina Menzel, Chris Montan, Ellen Pompeo, and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Addressing the ceremony, Bob Chapek, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said that for nearly a century, Disney has been entertaining and inspiring people around the world.

“I can’t wait to give fans a first look at what we have in store for our hundredth anniversary, and how we’re using this occasion to celebrate all the fans and families who have welcomed Disney into their lives,” he said.

The name “D23” pays homage to the exciting journey that began in 1923 when Walt Disney opened his first studio in Hollywood. Next year marks Disney’s 100th anniversary.

The three-day D23 Expo brings together guests from all 50 US states and 43 countries.

More than 165 presentations, panels, concerts, demonstrations, and sneak peeks will take place during the Expo, providing fans with unprecedented access to Disney films, streaming, television, games, theme parks, and celebrities.

More than 500 performers and presenters will take to the stage during the Expo.
