ISKANDAR PUTERI, Sept 11 — Johor aims to make its tourism sector number one in the country this year, said Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said the hope was to match the state’s investment achievements, which recorded the highest investment value in the country at RM60.9 billion, as well as the success of the state’s football team, Johor Darul Tazim (JDT), who emerged champions of the FA Cup on Saturday.

In addition, he said the desire to make the tourism sector number one is also in line with the state government’s desire to strengthen the economic development of Johor.

“This is because Johor is blessed with beautiful scenery; there are six national parks alone, 131 islands in Mersing. In terms of our heritage, we are also very proud, not to mention our traditional food.

“Because of this, we need to be ambassadors of the state,” he said at the opening of the Majestic Johor Festival (FMJ) 2022 here last night.

Majestic Johor Festival, a collaboration of various agencies, lasts for 11 days, from last Thursday (Sept 8) to Sunday (Sept 18), featuring various tourist attractions and uniqueness as well as the heritage of 10 districts in the state.

Meanwhile, the Kembara Mahkota Johor (KMJ) exhibition, featuring the various vehicles of the Sultan of Johor, is one of the main attractions of FMJ 2022 which is organised for the first time this year.

The festival is one of the initiatives to help the tourism sector to further increase the number of tourists to the state after being affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
