BEIJING, Sept 15 — ASEAN and Chinese media are encouraged to meet the challenges in the digital era and promote common development through mutually beneficial cooperation in order to make sure the international community hears the voice of Asia louder and clearer.

Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Deng Xijun said that ASEAN and Chinese media shoulder great responsibilities in enhancing mutual trust and cooperation and promoting regional development.

“Our media should focus on the theme of China-ASEAN friendly cooperation, promote media industrial cooperation by making full use of the existing mechanisms, and promote the narrative of China-ASEAN common development, so as to create a favourable social and public opinion environment for closer regional collaboration and make the voice of Asia clearly heard by the world,” he said.

He said this in his opening remarks during the 2022 ASEAN Media Partners Forum today, hosted by  China’s state-owned broadcaster China Media Group (CMG) and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region with the theme of ‘Intelligence, Collaboration and Cohesion’.

Deng said that nowadays, media is not only a window through which people on both sides can observe each other, but also an important bridge for people-to-people exchanges.

“I hope media on both sides will better showcase the accomplishments in economic and social development in China and ASEAN and the exchanges and cooperation between them, show a genuine, comprehensive and vivid picture of oneself and each other, tell the stories of promoting peace and development together, and jointly write a new chapter of the China-ASEAN bond of friendship,” he said.

Meanwhile Vice President of CMG Yan Xiaoming said that currently, they are planning to build a China-ASEAN media harbor together with  Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and establish a base for the entire media industrial chain that serves China and ASEAN countries.

The ASEAN Media Partners Forum is a new forum launched by CMG to promote exchanges and cooperation with media organisations of ASEAN countries.

Around 180 Chinese and foreign guests from more than 70 media and institutions in 15 countries participated in the hybrid event in Nanning, a capital of Guangxi region which is located at Southern China.
