KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) is targeting 300,000 self-employed individuals (OBS) to sign up for the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) 2.0 under its whitening programme starting Oct 1.

SOCSO’s deputy chief executive for operations, John Riba Marin said the month-long initiative will be implemented in conjunction with the 51st SOCSO Day celebration.

“I also urge the OBS who contributed last year but did not renew their contributions to do so to ensure that protection can continue,” he said at a media conference today.

John said under the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017 (Act 789), the failure of OBS in the passenger transport sector and carriage and delivery of goods and food sector to register and contribute to SKSPS is considered an offence of which they can be jailed for up to two years or fined RM10,000 or both if convicted.

He said the previous initiative which was held in May managed to raise awareness among the self-employed individuals in these two mandatory sectors to sign up.

“Registration can be done either through the Matrix Perkeso portal at www.matrix.perkeso.gov.my or at any of the 54 SOCSO offices nationwide.  No more exceptions will be considered if they fail to register within the month,” he added.

He said as of Sept 27, a total of 559,474 OBS had registered and contributed to SKSPS with 322,371 of them from the two mandatory sectors.
