KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck North of the Maluku Sea, Indonesia at 2.06 pm today.

According to a Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) statement, the depth of quake which occurred 163 kilometres south of Talaud Island, Indonesia was 67 km.

Based on the department’s initial assessment, the earthquake does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
