PUTRAJAYA, Jan 27 — Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir on Friday received Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad Dr Mamadou Tangara.

Zambry in a statement said they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen Malaysia-Gambia bilateral cooperation as well as multilateral cooperation, in particular through the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

“During the meeting, we exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern,” the statement read.

Zambry noted that Tangara highlighted the 15th Islamic Summit Conference, which will be hosted by Gambia this year and looked forward to Malaysia’s active participation at the summit.

Zambry said he also took the opportunity to seek support from Gambia on Malaysia’s candidature of Dr Ahmad El-Muhammady Muhammad Uthman El-Muhammady for the post of Assistant-Secretary General of the OIC, in the elections that will take place during the 49th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting on March 16 – 17 in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
