MELAKA, Feb 13 – Melaka will host the International Olympic Day to be organised by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) at the Declaration of Independence Memorial Square in Banda Hilir here in July.

OCM vice-president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the annual event was part of activities to promote the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“We are targeting 10,000 visitors to attend the International Olympic Day celebration, which will feature various activities to be finalised later.

“A similar celebration was staged in Penang last year. Melaka has been chosen as the host this year and we will invite former Olympians to spice up the event,” he told reporters at the Melaka Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here today.

He was there to attend ‘The Spirit of Olympism 2023’ fund-raising event featuring veteran cyclist Alex Goh Shaw Peng.

Nur Azmi said the Spirit of Olympism programme was a good way to appreciate and promote the country’s heroes who had featured in the Olympic Games.
