SINGAPORE, March 10 — Singapore leaders have today conveyed their congratulations to Xi Jinping on his re-appointment as President of China, noting that the country will continue to prosper under Xi’s helm.

Xi, 69, secured a third term as China’s president after being re-elected at the 14th National People’s Congress on Friday. 

“Over the past decade, China has made important strides in its development, marked by a strong commitment to uplifting the lives of its people,” said President Halimah Yacob in her congratulatory letter to her Chinese counterpart, Xi.

Halimah expressed her confidence that under Xi’s able leadership, China will continue to forge new achievements and enjoy continued peace and prosperity.

According to Halimah, Singapore and China enjoy excellent relations, nurtured through high-level exchanges, mutually-beneficial cooperation and close people-to-people ties.

Meanwhile, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said under Xi’s leadership, China has made impressive advancements in its development.

“This has benefitted not just the people of China, but also the region at large,” said Lee in his congratulatory letter.

As China navigates the next phase of its growth and a challenging global environment, Lee expressed his confidence that Xi will steer the country towards continued progress and prosperity.

According to Lee, Singapore and China share a close and longstanding friendship, nurtured by successive generations of leaders on both sides.

“Our bilateral cooperation continues to evolve in tandem with the interests and priorities of our peoples.

“This reflects the depth of mutual understanding and our commitment to working together for mutual benefit. I look forward to continue working with you to bring our bilateral relations to new heights,” he said.
