TELUK INTAN, May 5 — The federal government has allocated RM82.5 million for development projects and infrastructure upgrading works around Teluk Intan, said Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Nga said that the allocation included a six-kilometre flood mitigation project along Sungai Perak, which is scheduled to begin this year and to be fully completed in 2026.

“I expect once the flood mitigation project is completed, the flood issues in the area can be fully addressed,” he told reporters after a working visit at Pasar Besar Teluk Intan here today.

Nga said for the upgrading works, a total of RM600,000 was allocated to repair roofs and provide special parking lots for persons with disabilities at the Medan Selera Glutton Square in Jalan Ah Cheong.

It also involves upgrading facilities at the hawker centre in Jalan Maharani, such as installing a new floor and heat shields, while another RM800,000 is for upgrading Pasar Besar Teluk Intan, such as electrical wiring and digital signage installation.

“Upgrading works such as improving landscape features, installing solar lights and improving facilities for the disabled will be carried out at Teluk Intan Riverfront recreational park, with an allocation of RM500,000,” he added.

Nga said the allocation was aimed at increasing the level of cleanliness, safety and comfort of traders, as well as visitors, to boost the local economy.
