Pompeo: US imposes visa restrictions on some Chinese tech firm employees including Huawei

WASHINGTON, July 16 — The United States has imposed visa restrictions on some employees of Chinese technology firms, including Huawei, over their alleged support to regimes engaged in human rights abuses, reported Sputnik news agency, quoting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday.

“Today, the State Department is imposing visa restrictions on certain employees of Chinese technology companies that provide material support to regimes engaging in human rights abuses globally. Under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, an alien is inadmissible to the United States if the Secretary of State has reason to believe the alien’s entry would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States,” Pompeo said.

Pompeo pointed out the sanctions also target China’s tech giant Huawei.

“Certain Huawei employees provide material support to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) regime that commits human rights abuses,” Pompeo said. “Telecommunications companies around the world should consider themselves on notice: If they are doing business with Huawei, they are doing business with human rights abusers.”
