Flouting SOP: Two restaurants, kopitiam shut down

KEPALA BATAS, Aug 14 — Two fast food restaurants and a ‘kopitiam’ outlet here were ordered to close for seven days for non-compliance of the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) in an inspection conducted by the authorities today.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief (SPU) ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the police together with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) had inspected fast food restaurants and ‘kopitiam’ shops in the district before taking action against the three premises, in the operation which started at 4 pm today.

“The three restaurants were not complying with the SOP in curbing the spread of COVID-19. Among the SOPs flouted were not limiting the number of visitors eating on their premises and no physical distancing between one customer and another in the outlets,” he told Bernama tonight.

He said the owners of the three restaurants were also compounded RM1,000 each and the authorities would continue their operations to ensure that all parties complied with the stipulated SOP.

In addition, he said, six fast food premises and pastry shops were also given warning notices by the MOH for not complying with the rules set out in the SOP to curb the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.
